Yes. A DOTA PET CT scan is a safe diagnostic tool, when performed under appropriate medical supervision.
The scan requires a small dose of radioactive tracer (Gallium-68), which quickly decays naturally and is eliminated from the body in a short period. Medical justification for the radiation exposure is met and the exposure is well below accepted limits.
The scan is only done after your treating doctor or oncologist evaluates you. All our partner centres follow established radiation safety protocols and international nuclear medicine guidelines.
Always tell the doctor if you are pregnant or nursing

A DOTA PET-CT scan is recommended to diagnose neuroendocrine tumours, assess the stage of cancer, for recurrence after treatment, for recurrence in another organ, and for assessing the suitability of a patient for PRRT therapy.
One of the most precise imaging methods available for NET patients.
Preparation is usually easy. Bring previous medical records, your doctor’s prescription and tell staff if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, allergic, taking medication, or have any other medical conditions; and ensure you follow any fasting or medication guidelines given by the diagnostic centre. Loose, comfortable clothes are also advised.
The actual imaging will last about 20 to 30 minutes, but the full appointment will require about 2 to 3 hours to complete, including registration, tracer injection, time of uptake, imaging and observation.
The scan will not cause any pain, except for the injection of the radioactive tracer. While scanning, all you have to do is lie still on the scanning table as the PET-CT machine displays detailed images.
The procedure is comfortable and tolerated by most patients.
Yes. The normal CT scan will reveal structural changes, while a DOTA PET-CT will detect tumour activity at the molecular level.
This helps doctors to identify neuroendocrine tumours much earlier – and with far greater accuracy – particularly when there is no sign of them in a normal-looking conventional scan.
The time to receive patients’ reports depends on the diagnostic centre’s reporting system, but usually it takes 1-2 hours. When a medical emergency occurs, there may be expedited reporting as well.
